Pets and species safety
When you add a medication for a dog or a cat, the app checks it against a species table, which cites a source for each entry and is reviewed by a veterinarian.
What happens if I add a medicine that’s toxic to my pet’s species?
Not veterinary advice. This shows what published sources say about this medicine for this species. Ask your vet before giving it.
- On a dog’s or cat’s page, tap Add medication and choose the medication; the app checks it against its species table.
- If it’s toxic to the species, tap Sources to see where that comes from, then Choose a different medication.
- If it calls for caution, read why, then tap Continue — my vet knows about this to go on.
Toxic, or a caution
- Toxic: the app stops, names the ingredient and the species, and shows its sources. The way on is a different medication.
- A caution: the app explains why and asks you to confirm your vet knows about it before you go on.
Each check comes with this notice:
Not veterinary advice. This shows what published sources say about this medicine for this species. Ask your vet before giving it.
Other species
The table covers dogs and cats. For a rabbit, a horse or any other species, the app says species safety isn’t checked.
